The following materials of construction were tested:
1.
Designation: Al 7075-T6
DIN: -
Chemical composition in weight-%
Zn: 5.6; Cr: 0.23; Mg: 2.5; Cu: 1.6; Al: Balance
2.
Designation: Carbon steel St 37-2
DIN: 1.0037
Chemical composition in weight-%
C: 0.20; Cr: 0.11; Ni: 0.12; Mo: 0.12; Fe: Balance; Others: Al: 0.0016
Test procedure:
Coupons (50x20x2mm and 50x20x4mm) made from Aluminum (type „Al-alloy 7075-T6“) and
Carbon steel (St 37-2) were tested. 2 Coupons were exposed to the liquid phase, 1 coupon to the
interphase of the vapour phase/liquid phase and 1 coupon to the vapour phase of the corrosive.
- Test temperature was 55°C
- Test duration was 7d
- The test tanks were rinsed before demand with nitrogen
- The solutions were stirred.
- The pH-value was checked upon reception and after 7 days.
- The corrosive was not changed.
- Aluminum type „Al-alloy 7075-T6“ and Carbon steel "St 37-2" were tested in separate tanks.
Results and discussion
- Results:
- max. corrosion rate:
0.72 mm/a (Carbon steel type St 37.2)
0.44 mm/a (Aluminium type Al 7075-T6)
Pitting corrosion was not observed.
According to regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex I 2.16 chlorosulphuric acid has not to be classified as corrosive to metals.
