Additional information

The water solubility of the substance Alcohols, C16-18, ethoxylated, < 2.5 EO (CAS 68439-49-6) was determined with the flask method according to ASTM E 1148-02. A dependency of the water solubility on the used amount of test substance was observed: At higher loading rate, more dissolved substance was detected in the samples (TOC analysis). pH of samples after 72 h of stirring was in the range 6 -7.

The water solubility of the substance was also estimated through calculation based on EPIsuite v 4.10, WATERNT v 1.01 est. The water solubility values for (possible) individual constituents of the substance was estimated based on fragments and a weighting based on normalized composition was applied to derive a water solubility value for the whole substance.

In view of the rather large difference between the experimentally obtained value and the calculated value, and taking into consideration how the sample was treated before analysis (filtered) in combination with the detection limits of TOC analysis, the reliability of the experimentally derived value was questioned. Therefore, the key value for chemical safety assessment is based on the EPIsuite weight-averaged calculated water solubility value of 0.0399 mg/L.
