Description of key information

Biodegradation in water: readily biodegradable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two reliable tests on biodegradability of alcohol C12 -15 ethoxylates are available. The study of Halls (Croda, 1994) is conducted according to OECD 301B under GLP. Biodegradation of the test substance ranged between 61% (using 20 mg/L test substance) and 72% (using 10 mg/L test substance) after determination of CO2 evolution. The substance is described as readily biodegradable after 28 days of exposure. This study is regarded as key study. In a further supporting study conducted by Chung and Rapean (Shell, 1977) the ultimate biodegradability of alcohol C12 -15 ethoxylates with 7 ethoxy groups is described.
