Additional information

Data on the short-term toxicity of 5 -chlorovaleryl chloride to aquatic invertebrates (D. magna) is available from a study according to EU Method C.2 (Acute Toxicity To Daphnia) and in compliance with GLP. From this study the 48 -h EC50 value was determined to be 54.5 mg/L (measured). As the substance is expected to rapidly hydrolyse in contact with water to form 5 -chlorovaleric acid (CAS 1119 -46 -6) and hydrogen chloride (CAS 7647-01-0), the hydrolyis product 5 -chlorovaleric acid was formed and thus tested in this study.

For the hydrolysis product hydrogen chloride a short-term study in aquatic invertebrates (D. magna) according to OECD guideline 202 is available (OECD SIDS, 2002). The 48-h EC50 was 0.492 mg/L (acid equivalent to pH 5.3).
