Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The decomposition rate constant of biphenyl-4-ol (P-PP) in air occurring through reaction with hydroxyl radicals was estimated according to the method of Atkinson using the Atmospheric Oxidation Program (AOPWIN version 1.92, US EPA). This method estimates the rate constant for the atmospheric gas-phase reaction between photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals and organic chemicals and between ozone and olefinic/acetylenic compounds. The decomposition rate constant of P-PP in air following reaction with hydroxyl radicals was calculated to be 27.3363 x 10-12cm3molecule-1sec-1. Assuming that the 12 hour daytime hydroxyl radical concentration is 1.5 x 106molecules.cm-3, the half-life was calculated to be 0.391 days (12 hour day).

P-PP contains no hydrolysable groups.
