Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Melting of the test item occurred progressively between 63.8 and 181.4 +/-0.5°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test to determine the melting point of MEXORYL SBF was conducted in compliance with the OECD guideline 102 and the EU method A.1.

The Differential Scanning Calorimetry method (DSC) was used to determine the temperature at which the test item changes from the solid state to the liquid state, heating it under nitrogen and at the atmospheric pressure.

Because the difference between the temperature at the beginning and the final stage of melting was not situated within the range of the estimated accuracy of the method, two temperatures were presented.

Melting of the test item occurred progressively in a range of temperature :

- The mean temperature value of the beginning of melting (on 2 assays) was : 63.8+/-0.5°C,

- The mean temperature value of the final stage of melting (on 2 assays) was : 181.4 +/-0.5°C.

A complementary assay using the kofler hot bench method was performed and had tendency to confirm the values obtained with the DSC method.

This result was considered as reliable without restrictions because it was in compliance with GLP and international guidelines.

The melting range observed in this study was retained as key data for purpose of CSA.
