Description of key information

The surface tension of C16-18 DMAPA amidoamine as water soluble fraction was 26.7±0.15 mN/m at 20°C (2.7 mg/L). The substance is surface active. (OECD guideline 115/EU method A.5; ring method)

Additional information

The surface tension of C16-18 DMAPA amidoamine was determined according to OECD guideline 115 (27 July 1995) and EU method A.5 (30 May 2008) using the ring method. The surface tension of C16-18 DMAPA amidoamine as water soluble fraction was 26.7±0.15 mN/m at 20°C (2.7 mg/L). The substance is therefore surface active.

The following results from supporting substances are used for justification of read-across:

The surface tension of Stearic acid 3-(dimethylaminopropyl)amide hydrochloride was determined according to ISO 4311, using the plate method. The surface tension vs. concentration plot showed a minimum of 37.86 mN/m at 0.22 g/L.

 

The surface tension of C22-trimethylammonium chloride at the critical micelle concentration (0.01 g/L) is 47.0 mN/m at 25°C. This value is a good estimate of the surface tension of solutions or dispersions at higher concentrations.
