Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Half life period of 2-Naphthalenol, 1-[[4-(phenylazo)phenyl]azo]-, ar',ar''-Me derivs, in water is observed to be 4320hrs (180 days) while in sediment it is 38400hrs (1600 days), thus indicating that the substance is non biodegradable in both water as well as sediment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in freshwater:
4 320 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C
Half-life in freshwater sediment:
38 400 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Based on the Level III Fugacity Model, the half life period of the 2-Naphthalenol, 1-[[4-(phenylazo)phenyl]azo]-, ar',ar''-Me derivs.was estimated. The half period of 2-Naphthalenol, 1-[[4-(phenylazo)phenyl]azo]-, ar',ar''-Me derivs.in water is4320hrs (180days) therfore it is considered that the substance will qualify as persistent as the half life exceed the EPA criteria of 60 days. So, it can be confirmed that the substance is not readily biodegradable in water medium where as in sediment the half life is 38400 hrs (1600 days).

Based on this value, it can be inferred that the substance is persistent in water and sediment medium.
