Two studies are available for the endpoint short-term aquatic invertebrates: one Klimisch 1 key study and a Klimisch 3 supporting study.
In the Klimisch 1 study from Aniol (2015) the acute toxicity of 3- chloropropionic acid (purity 99.1%) toDaphnia magnawas determined in a static 48 h GLP study as limit test. The study was performed without deviations according to the OECD 202 test guideline. The nominal test concentrations were 0 (control) and 100 mg test item /L. Dose verification analysis confirmed correct dosage and stability of the test item. Since the test item has a significant effect on the pH of the test medium, the pH of the 100 mg/L test solution was adjusted to the pH of the control medium prior to adding the daphnids. The control and each test group was started with 4 replicates with 5 daphnids each. At start of the exposure, the daphnids were younger than 24 hours. Within the 48 hours of exposure, none of the daphnids from the control and treated test group was immobilized. The 24 and 48 - hour EC50 was >100 mg/L. The results of the study are considered relevant and reliable for the assessment of the ecotoxicity of the test item.
In the Klimisch 3 supporting study an acute Daphnia toxicity test was performed and the EC50 was determined after 24 hours for 3 -chloropropanoic acid. The EC50 (24 h; basis for effect: behaviour) was 109 mg/L. This result support the findings from the key study.
Based no the results of the two studies, it can be concluded that the EC50 of the registered substance is > 100 mg/L. This information considered relevant and reliable for the assessment of the ecotoxicity of the test item.
