Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Additional information
Data are available for both the parent substance and the silanol hydrolysis product for fish and invertebrates.
The short-term toxicity data for the parent substance are:
Freshwater fish (D. rerio), 96-hour LC50 10.3 mg/l (estimated concentration);
Invertebrates (D. magna), 48-hour EC50 12 mg/l (estimated concentration);
Algae (D. subspicatus), 24-hour ErC50 18 mg/l (nominal, equivalent to 10.3 mg/l parent substance, geometric mean) and NOEC 8 mg/l (nominal, equivalent to 3.6 mg/l parent substance, geometric mean).
In these tests it is likely that the test organisms were exposed to a mixture of the parent substance and the hydrolysis products.
Analysis of parent substance in test media by gas chromatography was undertaken as part of an algal inhibition study performed using this substance (SafePharm Laboratories Ltd. 1996d). This suggests that the half-life of the substance is approximately 24 hours at 24⁰C and pH range 8-10. This is limited evidence for understanding of the half-life, but may be indicative.
The short-term toxicity data for the hydrolysis product, read across from dichloro(dicyclopentyl)silane (CAS 139147-73-2) are:
Freshwater fish (D. rerio), 96-hour LC50 49.3 mg/l (measured);
Invertebrates (D. magna), 48-hour EC50 2.9 mg/l (measured).
The test organisms were exposed to a pre-hydrolysed form of the silanol hydrolysis product. No existing data for the pre-hydrolysed form on algae are available.
Activated sludge respiration inhibition studies are available for the parent substance. An EC50 >1000 mg/l has been selected based on weight of evidence from three respiration inhibition tests. No toxicity to microorganisms data are available for the hydrolysis product. Therefore, data for an activated sludge respiration inhibition test for a structurally-related substance, dichloro(dicyclopentyl)silane (CAS 139147-73-2), have been read-across (EC50 >100 mg/l (nominal)).
No long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates data are currently available with the registration substance. Due to the low solubility of the substance, and the toxicity observed in the acute studies, a chronic Daphnia reproduction test in accordance with OECD TG 211 has been proposed.
A data waiver is applicable to the long-term toxicity to fish endpoint.
