No Earthworm mortality was observed at concentrations up to and including 560 mg test substance/kg dry weight soil. Total mortality at the 1000 mg/kg dry weight soil test concentration was 60% on Day 7, and, remained at this level til the end of the study. The LC50 is situated between 560 and 1000 mg test substance/kg dry weight soil. The LC0 is 560 mg test substance/kg dry weight soil. No significant weight loss was observed up to and including 560 mg test substance/kg dry weight soil test concentration. Chloracetamide demonstrated an LC0 and LC100 of, respectively, 10 and 100 mg Chloracetamide/kg dry weight soil.

Executive summary:

The toxicity of CYCLOHEXYL SALICYLATE to the earthwormEisenia fetidaandrei over an exposure period of 14 Days. Following a range.finder test, the definitive test was set-up with 5 test concentrations (94, 170, 310, 560 and 1000 mg test substance/kg dry weight soil) and a Control. Soil was maintained in 2 L containers with air-flow through covers. Adult earthworms of at least 3 Months old were introduced in to the soil. Samples were examined for mortality and other observable effects (mucous secretion, weariness, loss of weight) on Day 7 and Day 14. Soil moisture was 25.6% (prior to test substance addition) at the beginning and 26.4% at the end of the study. Soil pH was 6.5, and the incubation temperature ranged from 21.5 °C to 22.0 °C. Chloracetamide was employed as the toxicity reference substance.
