Description of key information

Among data related to toxicity on algae, three publications were selected. The studies have an acceptable reliability and show  the lowest results in the available data. The lowest EC50 and EC10 derived were 57 and 26.3 mg/L, respectively.

Additional information

Three studies were selected to assess the toxicity of 1.1.2-trichloroethane on algae. The studies were conducted according to guidelines similar to OECD 201 or a internal TNO protocol, included monitoring of concentrations and were well described.

The study of Brack and Rottler (1994) was conducted on freshwater living species Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, with an exposure duration of 72 and resulted in a EC50 of 57 mg/L and an EC10 of 26.3 mg/L.

The study of Freitag et al. (1994) was conducted on freshwater living species Scenedesmus subspicatus with an exposure of 72h and resulted in a EC50 of 200 mg/L.

The study of Adema and Vink (1981) was conducted on the marine diatom species Phaeodactylum tricornutum with an exposure of 96h and resulted in a EC50 of 60 mg/L.
