- When heating from 20°C to 85°C, an endothermic peak was observed at around 84°C which corresponded to the test item melting point. The cooling from 85°C to -40°C gave an exothermic peak at an onset of 32.98°C, an end point of 30.09°C and peak temperature of 31.00°C for test one and onset of 33.86°C, end point of 30.90°C and peak temperature of 31.75°C. This endothermic peak is assumed to be due to crystallisation of the melted test item with it changing from a liquid to a solid.
The test did not give a definitive freezing point but crystallisation appears to happen at an average temperature of 31.00 + 31.75 /2 = 31.38°C.

As part of the assessment of freezing point and boiling point using DSC the melting point was also determined. The DSC gave a sharp endothermic peak with an onset temperature at 79.10°C and end point temperature at 84.75°C, with peak temperature at 84.33°C for first test and 79.12°C and 85.67°C, with peak temperature at 83.57°C for third test (A second test was also run but this did not produce results due to the instrument stopping).
