Description of key information

Two commercial products were tested for acute oral toxicity in rats prior to the introduction of GLP and OECD testing guidelines (BASF 1975 and 1978). The experimental procedures of the studies are comparable to the OECD testing guidelines. ie. male and female animals received a single gavage dose and were observed for 14 days. The reports contain summary tables, but no data for individual animals. No mortality was observed after a single dose of 5000 mg /kg bw (BASF 1978) or after 10000 mg/kg bw (BASF 1975).

The available experimental test data are reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation 1272/2008. No mortality occurred at the limit dose of 2000 mg/kg bw. As a result, the substance is not considered to be classified for acute oral or dermal or inhalation toxicity under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, as amended for the tenth time in Regulation (EU) No 2017/776.
