Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation :
Move the person away from the contaminated area. [*] Make the affected person rest.
Skin contact :
Remove all contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash with water. Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes). In case of inflammation (redness, irritation, ...) obtain medical attention. Show this sheet to the doctor.
Eye contact :
Immediately rinse with plenty of running water for a prolonged period, (at least 15 minutes) whilst keeping the eyes wide open If irritation persists, consult a doctor. Show this sheet to the doctor.
Ingestion :
NEVER attempt to induce vomiting. Rinse mouth out with water.
Further information:
Place contaminated clothing in a sealed bag for disposal. Use appropriate protective equipment when treating a contaminated person.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media:
- Suitable : Powders Carbon dioxide (CO2) Foam
- Not suitable : Strong water jet.
Specific hazards:
Flammable liquid. Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Specific fire fighting methods:
Stay upwind.
Evacuate the personnel away from the fumes.
Cut off the supply of the product.
Do not breathe fumes.
Do NOT attempt to fight the fire without suitable protective equipment.
In case of significant fire close by:
Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray
Protection of fire-fighters:
Complete protective clothing.
Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions :
Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
NO flames, NO sparks. Eliminate all sources of ignition.
Do not breathe vapours.
"Exposure-controls/personal protection".
Prevent any contact with hot surfaces. Stop the leak. Warn of danger. Mark out the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to unauthorized personnel. Shelter from vapours by keeping upwind.
Environmental precautions:
Avoid direct discharge into drains.
Methods for cleaning up:
- Recovery: Vacuum up the product.
Collect up the product and place it in a spare container:
- suitably labelled.
Then take the emergency containers to an area reserved for
subsequent recycling or disposal
- Cleaning/Decontamination : Wash the floor with plenty of water.
Handling and storage
HANDLING
Technical measures :
Ventilation. Vapour extraction at source. Earth the equipment.
Install a retention tank.
Measure:
Avoid contact with hot surfaces.
Avoid any direct contact with the product.
Prevent the build-up of electrostatic charge.
Smoking is forbidden.
Safe handling advice :
Ensure that there is a suitable ventilation system. Do NOT handle in a confined space. Do NOT vapourize near a flame or a very hot object
STORAGE
Technical measures :
The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to form a water-tight basin.
Storage tanks must be: earthed and equipped with an adequate safety valve.
Storage conditions
- Recommended :
Store:
- the container tightly closed and dry.
- in a cool, well-ventilated area
- away from any source of ignition.
- protected from light.
Incompatible products : Strong oxidizing agents.
Packaging : - Plastic drums. For small quantities: - Plastic bottles.
Packaging materials
- Recommended : Polyethylene.
- Not suitable : Iron. Rubbers.Certain plastic materials.
