Description of key information

Based on the results of this study, the test item Dibismuth trisulfide had no toxic effect at aquatic saturation on Zebrafish; the LC50 results and the LOEC are higher than the solubility level of the test item in the test medium which corresponds to a nominal test item concentration of > 100 mg/L.

Additional information

The short-term toxicity to fish of dibismuth trisulfide was determined according to OECD guideline 203. Mortality and any sub-lethal effects were not observed during the 96-h exposure period either in the treated or in the control group.

Accordingly, the 96-h NOEC was determined as the saturation concentration (i.e. 100% v/v saturated solution, equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration) and the LOEC and the LC50 values were determined to be higher than saturation.

Even the supersaturated test item concentration of 1000 mg/L in the pre-experiments did not show any toxic effects. Based on the results of this study, the test item Dibismuth trisulfide had no toxic effect at aquatic saturation on Zebrafish; the LC50 results and the LOEC are higher than the solubility level of the test item in the test medium which corresponds to a nominal test item concentration of > 100 mg/L.
