Acute toxicity studies (LD50determinations) with various Alfa Hydroxy Acid ingredients have demonstrated that these ingredients are of a low order of toxicity when applied dermally or orally ( Cosmetic Ingredient Review, 1998. Final report on the safety assessment of glycolic acid, ammonium, calcium, potassium, and sodium glycolates, methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl glycolates, and lactic acid, ammonium, calcium, potassium, sodium and tea-lactates, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, and butyl lactates, and lauryl, myristyl, and cetyl lactates. Justification for classification or non-classification

On the basis of a category approach, ammonium glycolate is not classified for oral and dermal Acute Toxicity endpoints.
