Materials and methods
Test guideline
- Qualifier:
- no guideline followed
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The mobility of 14C-cyclopropane labelled cyhalothrin was determined by soil thick-layer descending chromatography using three soils; 'Gore Hill' (clay loam, 13.9% organic matter [O.M.]), '18 Acres' (sandy loam, 5.2% O.M) and 'Frensham' (loamy sand, 2.2% O.M.). Treatments of approximately 100μg cyhalothrin/g moist soil (equivalent to 10kg a.i./ha) were applied to 30cm long plates and eluted with 32cm 'rain'.
- GLP compliance:

Results and discussion
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- The study is considered to be reliable with restrictions.
- Executive summary:
Peak radiochemical leaching (peak concentration) distance for cyhalothrin in all three soils was 1em or less. The concentration of cyhalothrin equivalents in the leachate was below the limit of determination <0.02 μg/ml).
Under the same conditions the peak leaching distance of a pesticide of moderate mobility, was approximately 6cm in the clay loam and between 10 and 11cm in the sandy loam and loamy sand.
It is concluded that cyhalothrin has a low mobility in soil.
