Description of key information
Under the conditions of the present test Heliotropin (piperonal) induced no visible or lethal effects in carp at or below an average exposure concentration of 1.6 mg/l (NOEC).
The 96h-LC50 was 2.5 mg/l based on average exposure concentrations (95% confidence interval between 1.6 and 3.8 mg/l) and was already reached after 72 hours of exposure.

Short-term toxicity to fish Cyprinus carpio was assessed according to OECD Guideline 203 (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test), and EU Method C.1 (Acute Toxicity for Fish) and in compliance with GLP. Carp were exposed under static conditions to the substance at concentrations of 0.46, 1.0, 2.2, 2.6, and 10 mg/L in freshwater.
The test was performed with 7 carp per vessel. For each concentration, the incidence of mortality at 3.5, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours was recorded, and test concentrations were confirmed by HPLC analysis.
After 96 hours the NOEC was 1.6 mg/L and EC50 was 2.5 mg/L (average measured exposure concentrations).
