First-aid measures

General notes: As a general rule, in case of doubt or if symptoms persist or you feel unwell, immediately call a Poison Information Centre or a doctor/physician.

Following inhalation

Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable and well-ventilated for breathing. In case of ongoing discomfort seek medical attention.

Following skin contact

Wipe away excess material with dry towel and then wash affected areas with plenty of water for several minutes. If irritation develops, seek medical attention.

Following eye contact

Check for and remove any contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Immediately wash affected eyes with running clean water for at least 15 minutes, keeping eyelids open. Seek medical attention.

Following ingestion

Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. In case of spontaneous vomiting be sure that vomitus can freely drain due of danger of suffocation. Give water repeatedly. If vomiting occurs, keep head lower than hips to help prevent aspiration. Give nothing by mouth in cases of unconsciousness or convulsion. Seek medical attention and show the container or label.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treat according to symptoms, no specific antidote. First aid may still be required in case of accidental exposure. If in doubt, GET MEDICAL ATTENTION PROMPTLY!

Prevent entry into sewers, watercourses, basements or confined areas. Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated, labelled, tightly sealed waste container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

General advice: As with all industrial chemicals, use good industrial practices when handling. Avoid eye, skin and clothing contact. Do not inhale. Do not taste or swallow. Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.

Protective measure

Provide adequate ventilation. Breathing must be protected when large quantities are decanted without local exhaust ventilation. Closed containers should only be opened in well-ventilated areas.

Measures to prevent fire

Keep ignition sources away – Do not smoke. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic discharge. Grounding is required when emptying into a conductive container. Use only non-sparking tools.

Measures to prevent aerosol and dust generation

Ensure good ventilation/local exhaust at the workplace. Closed containers should only be opened in well-ventilated areas.

Measures to protect the environment

Avoid releasing to the environment. Do not flush into surface water, sanitary sewer or ground water system. Discharge into the environment shall be avoided.

Advice on general occupational hygiene

In accordance with good industrial practice, industrial hygiene principles and relevant legal provisions, handle with care and avoid unnecessary personal contact. Do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas; wash hands after use and remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Technical measures and storage conditions

General advice: keep container tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place when not in use and during transport.

Store in accordance with local regulations. Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials (see section 10) and food and drink. Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabelled containers. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination. Store in a locked cabinet if possible and out of the reach of children. Empty only into earthed containers. If container is larger than 2000 litre in volume, or when flammable solvents are present inert container or use a system, otherwise designed to prevent or contain an explosion - seek expert advice.

Packaging materials

Store/keep in unopened original receptacles. Provide ventilation for receptacles.

Requirements for storage rooms and vessels

Use containers specially approved for the product. Keep storage place cool and dry.

Collocated storage with the following substances is prohibited: Pharmaceuticals, foods, and animal feeds including additives; infectious, radioactive and explosive substances; gases; strongly oxidising substances.

The product should not be stored with substances/products with which hazardous chemical reactions are possible.

Storage class

VCI: 13 Non-combustible solids

Materials to avoid

Exposure controls / personal protection

Occupational exposure limits and/or biological limit values

Occupational exposure limits: No value determined.

Biological limit values: No value determined.

Exposure limits at intended use: No value determined.

Appropriate engineering controls

Work in well ventilated areas. Local exhaust ventilation is generally required because it can control the emissions of the contaminant and its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general work area. Use mechanical ventilation for general area control. Refrigerant concentration monitors may be necessary to determine vapour concentration in work areas prior to use torches or other open flames, or if employees are entering enclosed areas.

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment

Hygiene measures

Wear protective clothing as necessary to minimize contact. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Eye wash fountains and safety showers must be easily accessible. Do not eat, drink, smoke or sniff while working. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin.

Eye/Face protection

Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used to avoid exposure to liquid splashes, mists or dusts, e.g. safety glasses with side-shields are recommended. Wear face shield if splashing hazard exists. Wear safety goggles (chemical goggles) if there is potential for airborne dust exposures.

Skin protection

Chemical protection clothing. Protective clothing should be selected specifically for the working place. Glove and lab coat is recommended.

Hand protection

Chemical resistant protective gloves. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product. Observe glove manufacturer’s instructions concerning penetrability and breakthrough time. Use proper glove removal technique (without touching glove’s outer surface) to avoid skin contact with this product. Dispose of used gloves according to applicable law and good laboratory practice. Wash and dry hands. Glove material: butyl-rubber; Glove thickness: 0.7 mm; Break though time: >480 min.

Other skin protection measures

Impermeable protective work clothing, closed footwear.

Respiratory protection

Wear a NIOSH-certified or equivalent organic vapour/particulate respirator. Where protection from nuisance levels of dusts are desired, use type P1 (EN 143) dust masks. Use respirators and components tested and approved under appropriate government standards such as CEN (EU).

Thermal hazards

No specific information.

Environmental exposure controls

Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment will be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels. Prevent from entering sewers, basements and workpants, or any place where its accumulation can be dangerous.
