Results

First test

Using an analytical balance, 1.5000 mg of test item were weighed into the aluminium standard 40mL crucible, the test was performed in a temperature rangefrom 25 to 300°C, with a heating rate of 7°C/min.

 

The following behaviour was observed:

44.5 – 75.3°C            Endothermicreaction showing a melting transition

75.3 – 234.2°C          The baseline remains stable and no boiling or decomposition phenomena were detected.

234.2 – 289.9 °C       Exothermicreaction showing a possible decomposition behaviour of the test item.

Second test

Since the first test didn’t show a well-defined melting transition, in order to obtain a more reliable value of melting point, a second test was run in a temperature rangefrom 30 to 100°C, lowering the heating rate to 1°C/min.

 

The following behaviour was observed:

 54.6 – 73.1°C            Endothermic reaction showing a well-defined melting transition of the test item at 67.2°C.

 

Conclusions:
From the obtained experimental data according to the A.1 method in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008, OECD Guidelines No. 102, it can be concluded that Delmopinolo HCl sample melts at 67.2°C, without concurrent decomposition; a decomposition phenomena is occurred at 234°C.
