Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The half-life times of styrene oxide in aqueous solution are 18 h (pH 7) and 1.6 days (pH 9) at 25 °C, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Hydrolysis as a function of pH was performed according to OECD Guideline 111 and EU-method C.7. At temperatures from 20 to 60 °C a temperature depending decrease of half-life time was observed; 27 h to 1.2 h at pH 7 and 2.4 d to 2.4 h at pH 9. Based on the results, half-life times of 18 h (pH 7) and 1.6 days (pH 9) were deduced for styrene oxide from the reaction rate constants at 25 °C.
