Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

In the acute immobilization test with Daphnia magna (STRAUS) (Report no. 2012 -0130 -DGO), the effects of the test item 3,3’,4,4’-Benzophenonetetracarboxylicdianhydride were determined according to OECD 202 (2004) and Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 Method C.2 (2008) from 2012 -11 -12 to 2012 -12 -20, with the definitive exposure phase from 2012 -12 -18 to 2012 -12 -20, at Dr.U.Noack-Laboratorien, Käthe-Paulus-Str.1, 31157 Sarstedt, Germany .

The study was conducted under static conditions over a period of 48 h with 5 concentration levels of the test item 3,3’,4,4’-Benzophenonetetracarboxylicdianhydride in the range of 6.25 to 100 mg/L, prepared with dilution water in a geometric series with a factor of 2. Additionally, the highest concentration level of 100 mg/L was tested pH neutralized (adjusted with 1 M NaOH to pH 7 ± 0.2) under the same conditions as the test and control groups, in order to compensate the influence of the low pH (pH < 6). Twenty daphnids were exposed to each concentration level, the pH-neutralized concentrationand the control.

The concentrations of the test item 3,3’,4,4’-Benzophenonetetracarboxylicdianhydride (BTDA) were analytically verified by HPLC-DAD on the basis of the corresponding transformation product 3,3’,4,4’-Benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid (BTA) at the start of the exposure (0 h) and at the end of the exposure (48 h) in all concentration levels and the control.
The measured concentrations at the start of the exposure (0 h) were in the range of 105 to 111 % of the nominal values. The recoveries at the end of the exposure (48 h) were in the range of 105 to 110 % of the nominal values, indicating
that the concentrations of the test item were successfully maintained for the duration of the test.

The effects observed at the concentration level of 100 mg/L were caused by the low pH (pH below the recommended range of

pH 6 – 9). This was confirmed by the pH-neutralized concentration level of 100 mg/L which caused no effects on Daphnia magna.

The water quality parameters (i.e., pH-values and dissolved oxygen concentration), measured at the start (0 h) and the end of the exposure (48 h), were within the acceptable limits. The validity criteria of the test guidelines were fulfilled.
