Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

2008
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
HPLC method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
0.12
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 3.5 - ca. 6

The pH value of an aqeous solution is in the weak acid range, depending on concentration and the (limited) extent of hydrolysis. Because the substance has no ionizable functional groups, the partition coefficient is not dependent on the exact pH value.

The shake-flask method was not applicated, because the hazardous properties of the substance demand short handlig times.

The experimental result matches well with the results of a calculation done with the EPISUITE program (Log Pow (calc) = 1.67), which is also part of the study report.

Conclusions:
The partition cefficient n-octanol/water of the test item was determined according to OECD117 to be 0.12 (logPow).

Description of key information

The partition cefficient n-octanol/water of Acrolein cyanhydrin acetate (ACA) was experimentally determined in an OECD guidline study according to OECD117 under GLP conditions.

The logPow was esteblished to be 0.12  (logPow). The low logPow was further supported by a calculation method.
