First-aid measures
Substance represents an isolated transported inertmediate. The producer and the user guarantee the respective protection measures. The following concerns both the use as isolated intermediate and the minor use (<1t/a) as technical chemical.
Substance represents an isolated transported inertmediate. The producer and the user guarantee the respective protection measures. The following concerns both the use as isolated intermediate and the minor use (<1t/a) as technical chemical.
General advice: Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.
Eye contact: In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Skin contact: Wash off immediately with plenty of water. Obtain medical attention.
Inhalation: Provide fresh air. Consult a physician.
Ingestion: Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Call a physician immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Suitable extinguishing media: Dry sodium chloride, Limestone powder, Extinguishing powder based on class B + D (DIN EN 2).
Extinguishing media which shall not be used for safety reasons: Water, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Foam
Further information: Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Be aware of a dangerous reaction with water, if the container is ruptured.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions: Wear personal protective equipment. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Avoid dust formation. Remove all sources of ignition. Do not smoke.
Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Should not be released into the environment. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.
Methods for cleaning up: Never allow contact with water. Cover spilled material with limestone powder. Sweep up or vacuum up spillage and collect in suitable container for disposal.
Handling and storage
Justification for handling of LTA under strictly controlled conditions:
LTA is produced and handled under strictly controlled conditions during its whole life cycle (production, storage and use), as LTA hydrolyses quickly upon contact with water or even air humidity. If the substance would not be kept under strictly controlled conditions, it would hydrolyse immediately to lithium hydroxide and 2-methylbutan-2-ol and would therefore not exist any longer.
Handling:
All working methods must always be designed so that inhalation of the substance as well as skin and eye contact are excluded. The substance should only be handled (in particular filling, transfer, metered feeding and sampling) in protective gas. Never allow water to come into contact with the product. The access of air and/or moistured should definitely be avoided at all stages of the work. In the case of handling in open systems, any dust that can form must be extracted directly at the point of origin. In those cases in which inhalation of the substance is possible in spite of the technical protective measures that have been taken (above all, closed system, extraction or good ventilation) respiratory protection should be worn (e.g. :::). Even if only shortterm skin contact is possible, tested antistatic and flameproof finished gloves (e.g. :::) and suitable antistic and flameproof protective clothing (e.g. :::) must be worn. Safe eye protection (e.g. goggles, if applicable, with the additional use of a protective face screen), is absolutely essential. Dry powder showers should be installed in the immediate vicinity of the work area, sufficient washing facilities should be available and eye douches should be made available and their location conspicuously labelled. After skin contact, the affected parts of the skin shoud be cleaned thoroughly using (:::). Contaminated clothing must be changed immediately. Special skin-protection and skin-care measures are recommended. A skin-protection plan must be drawn up. Take measures against electrostatic discharges (e.g. earth plant (in particular filling/metered feeding equipment)). If dust can develop, potential ignition sources must be removed from the field of work. Do not use any spark-producing equipment or tools.
Storage:
Keep containers tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Protect from direct sunlight. Only store at temperatures below the boiling point of solvent (e.g. techn. heptane 92 - 99 ¦C).
Storage stability:
Storage temperature: -10 - 40 °C
humid air and water: Keep tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Substance represents an isolated transported inertmediate. The producer and the user guarantee the respective protection measures. The following concerns both the use as isolated intermediate and the minor use (<1t/a) as technical chemical.
Additional technical information on the plant: Never allow water to come into contact with the product. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Keep under inert gas. Avoid dust formation. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery and at places where dust can be generated.
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection: Half mask with a particle filter P2 (EN 143).
Hand protection: Material: Flame retardant gloves
General advice: Protective gloves complying with EN 374., The exact break through time can be obtained from the protective glove producer and this has to be observed., Protective gloves have to be replaced at the first sign of deterioration.
Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles, Have eye wash bottle or eye rinse ready at the work place.
Skin and body protection: Flame retardant protective clothing.
Hygiene measures: Do not breathe dust. Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

Hazardous reactions: Reacts violently with water.
Thermal decomposition: from 344 °C
Disposal considerations
Waste key for the unused product: Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.
Product: If recycling is not practicable, dispose of in compliance with local regulations.
Contaminated packaging: Refer to manufacturer/supplier for information on recovery/recycling.
