Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
-0.2
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 7

Calculation of the Pow:
The Pow of the test substance was calculated to be 6.6
x 10^-1 (log Pow -0.18) using the Rekker calculation method.

HPLC Method:

HPLC chromatograms of the test substance solution, corresponding blank solutions and calibration curves are provided in the original report.

The equation of the regression line was: log k'= 0.584 x log Pow - 0.551 (r= 0.9990, n= 12)

Since the result of the HPLC method matched very well with the Rekker calculation method, the result is considered to be accurate, despite the fact that the value was slightly extrapolated.

Conclusions:
The log Kow of methyl (S)-lactate is -0.2 at 20 °C.
Executive summary:

In a GLP study conducted according to OECD 117, the octanol/water partition coefficient of methyl (S)-lactate was determined by using the HPLC method. The log Kow of methyl (S)-lactate is -0.2 at 20 °C (Kow: 0.58).

Description of key information
