INHALATION
Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Get medical attention.
INGESTION
Toxic if swallowed. Wash out mouth with water, provided person is conscious. Get medical attention immediately.
SKIN CONTACT
May cause an allergic skin reaction.
Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and plenty of running water. Get medical attention.
EYE CONTACT
Causes serious eye damage. Rinse immediately eye with plenty of low pressure water for at least 15 minutes.
Remove any contact lenses. Get medical attention.

The substance is used as a precursor for oxidative hair colours and as an ingredient in oxidation dye formulations as well as in dyeing formulations without a hydrogen peroxide based developer mix, with a final maximum on head concentration of 1.8%.

CONSUMER TOXICITY
To cover PC39 (cosmetics & personal care products) the consumer exposure scenario was calculated with CHESAR v 3.0.0. The parameters were: percentage of substance in mixture <=3.0%; liquid product; only exposure via the dermal route; frequent annual use/once per day; adults assumed; exposure to the inside of both hands; dermal transfer factor = 0.2
The result was a total dermal systemic dose of 0.429 mg/kg/day, or an RCR of 0.858
Note: the maximum concentration of 2-methylresorcinol allowed on-head is 3.0% under the assumption that the uptake of this substance through the skin is not more than 20% (maximum experimental value found: 20 %)
MAXIMUM CONCENTRATION OF SUBSTANCE IN A MIXTURE
In a consumer environment the substance is only to be used in a mixture with a maximum on-head concentration of 3.0 %.
