Description of key information

In an inherent biodegradability test conducted in accordance with EN ISO 9888 (Zahn-Wellens-Test) succinimide was degraded to 99 % after 4 days. Succinimide is therefore fulffiling the criteria of being inherently biodegradable.

Additional information

900 mg test substance/L (equalling 436 mg/L TOC) was applied. Recirculation sludge from the industrial sewage treatment plant (DSM fine chemicals, Austria) and recirculation sludge from the communal (domestic) sewage treatment plant Welser Heide was used in a ratio of 1:1.

The negative control showed no degradation of the substance. The removal of succinimide was measured by Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
