The concentration of the test substance at the beginning and at the end of the test was analysed by the Analytical Services K, Textile Dyes Division. All test medium samples for the analytical determinations were taken after mixing of the test solutions.

Test system / Test organism
The test organism was the species Daphnia magna. The daphnids were bred in the laboratories of the Textile Dyes Division, Product Ecology TF under standardized conditions. For the test, animals with age of less than 24 hours were used. The quality of the daphnids will be checked at least every 3 months by determining the EC50 values (24 h) for potassium dichromate (range: 0,8 -1,5 mg/l). For each concentration, 20 Daphnia magna were used.

The daphnids were exposed to the test article in 250 ml beakers containing 100 - 200 ml test medium with 10 animals per beaker. All tests are running in duplicate. During exposure, the animals were kept at 21 ± 1 °C with 16 hours illumination.

Calculation of EC - values

Influence of FAT-92'33/A on Daphnia magna after 48 hours of exposure. In the freshly prepared test medium 78.7 - 87.2 % of the nominal test concentrations was analytically determined. After 48 hours 67.2 - 72.5 % of the nominal test concentrations was found in the test medium. In the stock solution and in all test concentrations the test substance was dissolved without any sedimentation or flocculation. Since the analyzed concentrations were clearly lower than the nominal concentrations the mean values were calculated between the measured concentrations of the start and the end of the test. The EC - values reported are related to the mean measured concentrations of the test

substance. In the control no immobilization of the daphnids was observed after 48 hours. The EC0 value could not be calculated, but is lower than 42.5 mg/l. The EC50 value was calculated to be 134.8 mg/l.

Executive summary:

The acute toxicity of test substance to Daphnia magna was determined in a 48-hour static test according to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, Section 2, No. 202, adapted 4 April 84, and EEC Directive 84/449, L 251, Part C 2. The test was performed in compliance with the Good Laboratory Practice Regulations. The nominal concentrations tested were 58, 100 and 180 mg test article/l, and a control without any additions. In the freshly prepared test medium 78.7 - 87.2 % of the nominal test concentrations was analytically determined. After 48 hours 67.2 - 72.5 % of the nominal test concentrations was found in the test medium. In the stock solution and in all test concentrations the test substance was dissolved without any sedimentation or flocculation. Since the analyzed concentrations were clearly lower than the nominal concentrations the mean values were calculated between the measured concentrations of the start and the end of the test.The EC-values reported are related to the mean measured concentrations of the test substance.
