Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There is no study available, in which the toxicity of Bis(1-methylheptyl) adipate (CAS 108-63-4) to aquatic microorganisms was assessed. Therefore, read-across to the structurally and chemically closely related source substances Bis(7-methyloctyl) adipate (CAS 33703-08-1), and Dioctyl adipate (CAS 123-79-5) was performed in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, section 1.5 in order to fulfil the data requirements for this substance. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance was used for the assessment. This read-across is justified in detail within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.

Possibile effects on the respircation of activated sludge induced by the source substance Bis(7-methyloctyl) adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) were tested occording to guideline ISO 8192 (Water quality - Test for inhibition of oxygen consumption by activated sludge for carbonaceous and ammonium oxidation). The respiration of activated sludge was followed for 30 minutes at substance concentrations of 198.8, 498.4 and 1001.2 mg/l. An effect of the test substance on the respiration rate was not observed. The determined EC20 (30 min) was > 1000 mg/L.

One study on the toxicity to microorganisms is available for the source substance Dioctyl adipate (CAS 123-79-5). The test was set up according to ISO 10712. The growth rate of Pseudomonas putida was recorded for 16 h at nominal test substance concentrations of 300 and 1000 mg/L. Detrimental effects on the bacterial growth were not observed. The determined EC10(16 h) was > 1000 mg/L (EC50(16 h) > 1000 mg/L).

Based on the available data for the read across substances no nhibitory effects on the activity of activated sludge microorganisms are expected within the limits of water solubility of the target substance Bis(1-methylheptyl) adipate (CAS 108-63-4).
