Description of key information

In the key study the ready biodegradability of the test item 2 -decyltetradecanoic acid was determined with a non-adapted activated sludge over a test period of 35 days in the Modified Sturm Test according to OECD 301 B.

Four of six replicates reached a mean of 63 % biodegradation after 28 days. Therefore under the test conditions the test item 2-decyltetradecanoic acid is classified as readily biodegradable, but failing the 10-day-window.

In a supporting study according to OECD 301 F 2 -decyltetradecanoic acid did not meet the 10-day window for ready biodegradable status. It consistently and uniquely fails and exceeds the criterion of less than 20 % ThOD difference between replicates in three tests. However, based on the extent of the biodegradabalility at the end of the 28-day with some replicates % ThOD greater than 60 %, 2-Decyltetradecanoic acid can be considered inherently biodegradable.
