Results and discussion

Details on results:
Respiratory irritation, 15 min RD50: 0.26-0.34 mg/L air, 84.0-112.0 ppm (analytical)

Any other information on results incl. tables

The RD50 was found to be 112 ppm = 0.34 mg/L (Gagnaire et al. 1989).

84 ppm = 0.26 mg/L is stated by Gagnaire et al. 1993.

Note: Calculation based on MW = 73 and molar volume of 24 L (20 °C): 1 ml/m3 = 3.04 mg/m3.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In mice, n-butylamine is an acute sensory irritant when inhaled: effective exposure levels in mice = ~80 - 110 mL/m3 = ~240 - 340 mg/m3
that produce a 50% suppression of the respiration rate.
