Description of key information

Butyl benzyl phthalate has a low potential to bioaccumulate in fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Carr (1997), tested for bioaccumulation of the test substance in Lepomis macrochirus in a near-guideline (OECD 305) test. The whole-body BCF was 12.4, whilst the lipid normalised BCF is 9.4. This study is acceptable for use as a key study.

Monsanto (1979), tested for bioaccumulation of the test substance in Lepomis macrochirus in a near-guideline (ASTM Proposed Standard Practice for Conducting Bioconcentration Tests with Fishes and Saltwater Bivalve Molluscs Draft No. 9) test. The whole-body BCF was 188. This study is acceptable for use as a key study.

These results show that butyl benzyl phthalate has a low potential to bioaccumulate in fish.
