Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
No measured data are available for the short-term toxicity to algae of the registration substance. The assessment of effects is based on available data for its constituents. The available evidence suggests that all constituents of the registration substance are expected to be non-toxic in algae over 72 h at the limit of solubility.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
For octadecan-1-ol, The 96 h EL values could not be accurately determined due to large variations in cell concentrations. The EC50 values determined are reliant on confounding factors due to the concentrations used (exceedingly higher than the limit of solubility) and therefore should be treated with caution. The water solubility of octadecanol is 0.0011 mg/L at 25oC. The results indicate that no toxic effects were present at the limit of solubility of the test substance, i.e. EL50 and NOEC > limit of solubility.
For tetradecan-1-ol, A 72 h EL50 value of >10 mg/L has been determined for the effects of the filtered test substance on growth rate of the algae S. subspicatus. The value is much higher than the limit of solubility of the test substance (ca. 0.1-0.4 mg/L), therefore the test substance is not toxic at the LoS.
For hexadecan-1-ol, a 96 h EL50 value of 100 mg/L and an EL50 value of >1000 mg/L have been determined for the effects of the test substance on growth rate of the test substance of S. subspicatus. These results are much higher than the limit of solubility of the test substance and should be treated with caution; the test substance did not appear to be toxic at the limit of solubility. Therefore the EL50 is >0.01 mg/L (>Limit of Solubility).
