Additional information - workers

The DNEL for long-term dermal exposure is derived from the 90day feeding study as this represents the most relevant study for risk assessment. Studies with gavage dosing cause higher local irration of the gastrointestinal tract and are not representative of the exposure situation.

A DNEL for inhalation exposure could not be experimentally derived. However, H. Messinger (RTP 2014, Vol 68, pp 317 -324) has evaluated NOEL effect levels for irritating and corrosive substances. As a result, if only irritating or corrosive properties determine the hazard profile, a generic cut-off value of 10 mg/m3 for irritating and 1 mg/m3 for corrosive substances was established. The value of 1mg/m3 is lower than a DNEL that would be derived from the oral study by route-to-route extrapolation.
