Additional information

4-bromo-3,3,4,4-tetrafluorobut-1-ene (BTFB, CAS RN 18599-22-9) is a colorless liquid (>99%) that has a melting point of <-50 ºC and a boiling point of 61.0 ºC (Measured by Method A.1 and A.2, OECD 102 and 103). Additional physicochemical properties are summarized below as appropriate.

In accordance with REACH Annex VII, the density of BTFB was measured, via OECD 109, relative to water to give a relative density of 1.62 at 20°C. The vapour pressure is 252.58 hPa at 25°C determined by Method A.4 (OECD 104). The surface tension of the BTFB was higher than 60mN/m.  The BTFB has no surface active properties per Method A.5 (OECD 115). The water solubility, determined by shake-flask method and OECD 105, is 85.34 g/L in distilled water at 20°C.  The shake-flask method was used to determine a log Kow of 2.96 when measured at pH 4.5 – 4.6 (OECD 107).  Per Flash Point Method A.9, BTFB does not have a flash point between -31 ºC and 61 ºC.  All material is evaporated by 61 ºC.  The auto ignition temperature of BTFB was determined to be 465 ºC using Auto Ignition Method A.15.

The substance has no groups associated with explosive properties and is not oxidizing based on chemical structure.
