Description of key information

4-Amino-m-cresol is not flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of 4 -Amino-m-cresol wasdetermined following EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids)).

The sample was formed into a powder train 250 mm long, 20 mm wide, 10 mm high on a stainless-steel-plate. A Bunsen flame is applied for a maximum of 2 minutes (or until ignition). It was tested whether combustion propagates, either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within 4 min test period.

During the 2 min of the ignition attempt no ignition was observed. Two tests were performed, on each test, the same sample behavior was observed. The sample tested did not ignite, but it melted changing the color to dark yellow without apparent decomposition when the Bunsen’s burner flame was approached. The combustion did not propagate; therefore no further testing was required

Based on this test, 4-Amino-m-cresol is non flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

During the 2 min of the ignition attempt no ignition was observed. The combustion did not propagate; based on this test, 4-Amino-m-cresol is non flammable.
