Description of key information

Bulk calcium carbonate is a white powder with a melting point of >825 deg C and which decomposes prior to boiling. The water solubility was measured as 16.6 mg/L at 20 deg C [OECD TG 105]. Based on read-across to uncoated nano calcium carbonate, it is not readily combustible [UN Test Method N.1] and not auto flammable [UN Test Method N.4]. It is predicted to be non-explosive and non-oxidising based on its chemical structure and experience of handling and use.
