EC number: 273-694-8
CAS number: 69011-50-3
A scum formed on the surface of molten zinc and zinc alloys.
Based on the results from transformation /dissolution
tests, demonstrating that zinc drosses
are insoluble to such extent that the concentration of zinc and
other metal ions in standard aqueous media loaded with 10mg/l of zinc
dross is lower than the reference value for aquatic toxicity of
zinc at pH 6 and pH 8.
Zinc dross is thus not classified.
Model calculations supported by experimental field
evidence show that zinc is rapidly removed from the water column at a
rate of > 70% in 28 days. Values for zinc dross, taking this into
account, are thus below the toxicity reference values at both pH and
zinc dross is not classified for aquatic chronic toxicity.
