Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

D3 hydrolyses rapidly. Although the intermediate hydrolysis product L3-diol has a log Kow > 3 (log Kow 3.2), it is anticipated to have a low potential for bioaccumulation. The final silanol hydrolysis product dimethylsilanediol has a low log Kowvalue (<3) and thus has low potential for bioaccumulation, and the requirement for testing is waived.

An experimental study conducted with the parent substance, D3, is disregarded due to significant methodological deficiences. The study had some significant deviations from guideline methods, and was not conducted according to GLP. Only one concentration was tested in the study, and the BCF was determined from samples sacrificed at one time point after 14 days of exposure. It is not possible to determine whether steady-state was reached.  There was no depuration period. In addition, the pH dropped to below 6.5 in the study. The substance hydrolyses rapidly, and so the organisms were likely exposed to high concentrations of the hydrolysis product dimethylsilanediol as well as to the parent substance. Exposure to the intermediate hydrolysis products is also likely.
