A calculation of photodegradation of Acesulfam K according to Atkinson resulted in a degradation half-life of about 8.5 hours under the conditions of the northern hemisphere and assuming a 12 -hour day. No hydrodrolytical degradation could be observed under environmentally relevant conditions. It can therefore be concluded that the only relevant abiotic pathway for degradation for Acesulfam K is via phototransformation.
