Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
13 Oct 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

When no ignition and propagation of combustion either by burning with flame or smoldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 4 min test period were observed, the substance wasn't considered as highly flammable and no further testing was performed.

Result of preliminary test

1. 44 s for 15 mm, 2. 38 s for 13 mm.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Not highly flammable substance.

Description of key information

not flammable
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

no self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Based on flammability result the test substance is a non flammable solid.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance is completely molten at 160 °C, therefore it does not need to be considered for classification as self-heating.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

the substance did not propagate combustion in a preliminary screening test according to EU Method A.10. Therefore the substance is not classified as a flammable solid.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

The substance is completely molten at 160 °C, therefore the substgance does not need to be considered for classification as self-heating substance.
