Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

One key study is available to assess the toxicity of Chimexane HB to algae (Scenedesmus subspicatusnow calledDesmodesmus subspicatus). This study was performed according to OECD 201 and Commission EC Method C.3 with GLP statement, under static condition during 72 hours.

Five nominal test item concentrations were used (1.0, 2.2, 4.6, 10.0 and 21.6 mg/L) with 3 replicates per concentration. A control group (6 replicates not exposed to any substance) was also employed under the same experimental conditions. Test media were continuously mechanically stirred, and randomly rotated each study day. Algal cell concentrations have been measured approximately 24, 48 and 72 hours after the start of the study. Measurements of pH were performed for each test and control medium, at the start and at the end of the study. No analytical monitoring of the test item concentrations was performed. Concentrations levels of the test substance throughout the study period were guaranteed by the use of axenic algal strain and by the known water-solubility and physico-chemical stability of the test substance in the experimental conditions.

The endpoint values were recalculated with ToxRat Professional. Results are expressed in term of test material (aqueous content of 45.9%), each value has to be multiplied by 0.541 to be comparable to the other ecotoxicological data.

The results are presented below:

Growth rate:

72h-ErC50 = 11.09 mg test item/L, corresponding to 6.0 mg dry extract/L;

72h-ErC10 = 3.19 mg test item/L, corresponding to 1.73 mg dry extract/L;

72h-NOECr = 2.2 mg test item/L, corresponding to 1.19 mg dry extract/L.

Biomass:

72h-EbC50 = 4.49 mg test item/L, corresponding to 2.43 mg dry extract/L;

72h-EbC10 = 1.91 mg test item/L, corresponding to 1.03 mg dry extract/L;

72h-NOECr = 1.0 mg test item/L, corresponding to 0.54 mg dry extract/L.

In conclusion, considering that one criterion for control’s specific growth rate was not fulfilled, lowest data have to be retained:

72h-EbC50 = 2.43 mg dry extract/L; 72h-NOECb = 0.54 mg dry extract/L.
