Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No toxic effects against algae were observed at the limit effective loading of 100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

Key values should read > 100 mg/L as no effect was observed up to the highest test concentration.

In order to test acute toxicity to algae of the substance, Desmodesmus subspicatus was exposed to the test solution of one nominal concentration of the test item (100 mg/L) and blank control solution for a period of 72 hours under static conditions. The cell densities were measured at 24 h intervals. Inhibition of the algal population was measured as reduction in growth rate (index r), relative to control cultures grown under identical conditions.

The results are expressed in terms of effective loadings. The substance has not a definite or unique structure and consists of several components. A Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) was used to test effects at a limit effective loading of 100 mg/L and no specific analysis was performed. With the sponsor’s agreement, the content of the test item during the exposure period was verified by DOC determination.

No toxic effects against algae were observed at the limit effective loading of 100 mg/L.

This toxicity study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for the acute algae study.
