Melting point of Rutile is 1843 °C.

For the evaluation of this endpoint data from one reliable handbook were used as key information. According to the REACH regulation (“ECHA, guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment – chapter R.7a”), it is appropriate to use specific handbook data as a reliable data source. A useful reference book containing peer-reviewed physico-chemical data include the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. Data available from this handbook indicate that Rutile has a melting point of 1843°C.

Furthermore, Synthetic rutile is made from the naturally occurring iron-titanium mineral Ilmenite with the initial pyro-metallurgical process occurring above 1100 °C. The mineral grains do not melt during this process and retain their original shape. Therefore, the melting point as reported in Iluka’s Material Safety Data Sheet for Synthetic rutile, issued November 2006, is above 1000 °C.
