Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Cassia oil is a Natural Complex Substance, a mixture consisting of a range of constituents with varying solubility. Therefore the tests on aquatic organisms were performed with Water Accomodated Fractions in order to provide data for classification. The volume is 1-10 tonnes/year, therefore no PNEC is derived and no Hazard assessment or PBT assessment is conducted.

Conclusion on classification

Cassia is a Natural Complex Substance, a mixture consisting of a range of constituents with varying solubility. It was shown to be readily biodegradable. Log Kow ranges from 1.51 to 2.89 and for 77% of the NCS, log Kow is 1.82. Thus there is no potential for bioaccumulation.

The EL50 of this NCS for algae and Daphnia was experimentally established to be 3.3 and 3.8 mg/L (WAF). Thus, the lowest acute ecotoxicity value, the 72h-ErL50 with Algae, is between 1 and 10 mg/L. The chronic ErL10 value is 0.55 mg/L. As the substance is readily biodegradable and log Kow < 4, it is concluded that Cassia oil classifies as Chronic 3, H412 for aquatic hazards according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC (CLP).
