Description of key information

According to the literature, the melting point of the test substance is 73 °C. However, the melting point referred to in the literature may not be appropriate for this type of hydrated inorganic salt. Upon heating, the nonahydrate will initially release water promoting the aluminium nitrate to dissolve in its own hydrate water at 73 ⁰C. It therefore may not be appropriate to refer to this event at 73 °C as the melting point.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
73 °C
