Hydrolysis:-

In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VIII, information requirement 9.2.2.1, hydrolysis as a function of pH, does not need to be conducted if the test substance is readily biodegradable. Therefore this study was considered for waiver.

Phototransformation in Water:

No experimental data available. As this study is not a standard information requirement in REACH and there is no indication from the CSA on the need to investigate further the fate and behaviour of the substance (Annex X requirement), no further testing is considered necessary.

Biodegradation

Biodegradation in water: screening tests

In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VIII, hydrolysis as a function of pH, information requirement 9.2.2.1, does not need to be conducted if the test substance is inorganic in nature.

Biodegradation in water and sediment: simulation tests

In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VIII, hydrolysis as a function of pH, information requirement 9.2.2.1, does not need to be conducted if the test substance is inorganic in nature. Moreover given its high water solubility the substance is expected to ionize giving Ca2+ and IO3-.

Biodegradation in soil

Since the substance is inorganic in nature, the study need not be conducted. Secondly, the half life period in case of soil is 1800 hrs and based on this information it can be concluded that the substance will have a lower biodegradation in soil environment as compared to the other environment (air, water and sediment). But, since the exposure to the soil compartment is unlikely so the persistence level of the substance in soil is not considered. Therefore this study was considered for waiver.

Bioaccumulation

According to column 2 of Annex IX, this study does not need to be conducted since Calcium iodate has low octanol water partition co-efficient value of-5.28. Hence this endpoint was considered for waiver

Adsorption / desorption

According to column 2 of Annex VIII, this study does not need to be conducted since Calcium iodate has low octanol water partition co-efficient value of -5.28. Also, the Soil Adsorption Coefficient estimated using the KOCWIN v2.00 indicate that the Log Koc value in soil environment would be 1.7831. Therefore this study was considered for waiver.

Henry's Law constant:

Henry's Law states that at a constant temperature, the amount of a given gas that dissolves in a given type and volume of liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas in equilibrium with that liquid. The Henry's Law Constant of calcium iodate which is a solid at 25°C is 0.00000000000000004233 (4.233E-017)Pa m³/mol.
