Description of key information

Flammability: Extremely Flammable Gas. Contact with water may release flammable gas.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
extremely flammable

Additional information

No flammability study is available for the substance. However, sufficient evidence is available to allow the substance to be classified as an Extremely Flammable Gas and further testing is not considered necessary.

There is no evidence from experience in handling and use that the substance is flammable in contact with air. In contact with water, the flammable gas hydrogen may be produced.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is classified as follows:

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008:

- Flam. Gas 1. H220: Extremely flammable gas.

- Water React. Flam. Gas 3. H261: In contact with water releases flammable gases.

According to Directive 67/548/EEC:

F+; R12 Extremely flammable; Extremely flammable.

F; R14/15 Highly flammable; Reacts violently with water, liberating extremely flammable gases.

The classification of extremely flammable is on the basis of a flash point of 9°C and a boiling point of 6°C, supported by evidence for close structural analogues of the substance.

The presence of the Si-H bond in the molecule indicates that contact with water may result in release of hydrogen, a flammable gas.
