Description of key information

The water solubility of Methyl isothiocyanate was estimated in GLP study (OECD 105) at 7940 mg/L at 20°C. Consequently Methyl isothiocyanate is considered to be soluble in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
7 940 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of Methyl isothiocyanate was estimated in several publications:

- 7600 mg/L at 20°C.

- 8230 mg/L at 20°C

- 7311 mg/L at 20°C

- 7600 mg/L at 20°C

- 8610 mg/L at 25°C

No data concerning the method used for the estimation of water solubility is available; consequently these results should be considered with care. Nevertheless all these data comes to comfort the fact that Methyl isothiocyanate can considered as soluble in water.

However in order to get a relevant data for the water solubility of MITC, at test was carried out:the water solubility of Methyl isothiocyanate was estimated in GLP study (OECD 105) at 7940 mg/l at 20°C.During the analysis, the temperature was 19.9 °C +/- 0.9°C and the mean value of pH was 7.06.

Consequently Methyl isothiocyanate is considered to be soluble in water.
